The Cathedral Justice Project (CJP) is a program of The Beacon, a multi-faceted outreach program targeting the homeless population of Houston. The
programs offered by The Beacon are part of an overall strategy to offer
the most comprehensive range of services possible that
directly address the most immediate needs faced by the homeless and very poor.
The Beacon
supplies meals, clothing, shower facilities, laundry services and case management in a day shelter setting. Brigid's Hope helps transition homeless women from confinement in Texas prisons.
Cathedral Clinic offers health care, psychiatric treatment and mental health counseling for those living on the streets.
There is a population of 30,000 experiencing homelessness over the course of a calendar year (2006-2007 Homeless Enumeration and Needs Assessment, Coalition for the Homeless of Houston/Harris County)
The average income for our client group is just over $150/month. However, more than 75% of our clients have no regular income.
Our clients typically have no access to attorneys who provide reduced fee services because of their lack of income.
